Vadodara, one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities, is located to the south east of Ahmedabad, on the banks of river Vishwamitri. The district headquarter is Vadodara.

The district has 12 talukas, of which the major towns are Vadodara, Savli, Waghodia, Padra, Dabhoi, Karjanand Sankheda

Key industris are Chemicals and Fertilizers, Pharmaceuticals, Biotechnology, Cotton textiles, Machine tools, Glass, Engineering, Tobacco, Fisheries and Dairy

Manufacturing plants of several private industry players, as well as Public Sector Units (PSUs) such as Gujarat Alkalis and Chemicals Limited (GACL) and Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC) are located here

Major crops cultivated are Rice, Wheat, Sorghum (Jowar), Yellow Peas, Grams, Oilseeds, Groundnut, Tobacco, Cotton and Sugarcane

The district has huge reserves of Dolomite and Fluorspar
